What is Mediation?

Mediation is a process where an impartial mediator helps two or more parties to reach an agreement through a collaborative process. The mediator is neither a judge nor an arbitrator during the mediation process and remains non-judgemental throughout. The mediator merely supports the parties involved in identifying the issues and to explore how an agreement may be reached. The decision that both parties to a mediation process may reach is entirely voluntary.

Cost Effective

Mediation is a cost effective solution for conflict resolution when compared to the costs involved in litigation through the court system.

Low Risk

The mediation process is low risk when comparing the monetary costs of litigation, while the settlement potential is high in mediation.

Parties control the outcome of the mediation

The parties to the mediation control both the content that is discussed and the outcomes that are agreed.

Protection of privacy

Mediation is beneficial for corporate bodies as negotiations between parties can take place without being made public.

Quick resolutions of disputes

Conflicts can be settled in a timely manner, in many instances agreements can be made within a single day. On average over 80% of all disputes are settled through mediation.
